Types of Knit Fabrics for your Claire Cardigan
With our newest debut of the Claire Cardigan pdf sewing pattern, many of you have been asking what types of fabric to use to sew it! So, let's talk knit fabrics!
For the Claire Cardigan we suggest a double brushed poly, jersey knit, cotton/lycra, sweater knit or hacci sweater knit.
Knit fabric has varying degrees of stretch, does not unravel or fray and does not wrinkle as much as a woven material. That's why we love it! Let's talk types...

Double Brushed Poly is a 4-way stretch knit made of 96% polyester/4% spandex. It has also undergone a process where both sides of the fabric are brushed, creating that characteristic suede like feel on both sides. (fabric.com) Here are some faves!

Jersey knit does not have a lot of stretch to it depending on it's fiber content, unless it includes spandex and it works well as tops, cardigans and dresses like these:

Sweater Knit is a wool knit formed when the hair is spun into yarn and then interlooped with other yarns, which creates a breathable and usually lightweight fabric which is great for sweaters or cardigans.

Hacci Sweater Knit Fabric which is also known as Hacci, has a more loopy, open-knit texture than regular cotton knits and are usually made of blends of cotton and wool, polyester, or spandex. They are wrinkle resistant.

I hope you find a fabric you love and come join our SEW ALONG next week!!
